Estate Planning
Estate Planning Myth #1. “If I die, all my money will go to my spouse.”April 30, 2015 . 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm Truth - Actually, in Illinois, if you die without a will and have children, 50% of your money will go to your spouse and 50% will go to your children, no matter what their age. Estate Planning Myth #2. Most people have a will. Truth - Depending on the survey, 51% to 55% of people age 55 to 64 do not have wills. Among younger adults, the proportion is even higher. Estate Planning Myth #3. If I have a will, my estate will avoid probate. Truth - A will does not avoid probate and probate can take up to two years. Most states have minimum periods of time that creditors are allowed to respond. To avoid probate, you need a Trust. If you are married, or have children, or own any property (such as a home, or a car), you should have a will! Come to the Estate Planning Seminar on Thursday, April 30, offered twice, at 2:00 and 7:00 pm, to get the real facts on wills and estate plans. It will be held in the Church Library. There is no charge, and you will have the opportunity (also at no charge) to follow up with an estate planning expert to develop a plan that is right for you. Call the Church Office (708-839-1200) to sign up, or e-mail our Director of Stewardship (mark.bussert@aol.com).
